Installation Showcase - Fairfield Inn & Suites Dallas North

Fairfield Inn & Suites Dallas North

Requirements

Wi-Fi coverage (802.11n) for the Lobby, Reception, and Guest Rooms for the Fairfield Inn & Suites Dallas North. The Fairfield Inn & Suites all-brick, three story, 107 room hotel is located in the heart of North Dallas, just minutes from the North Dallas/Addison business district, world class shopping, over 150 restaurants, and many recreational facilities.

System Design

The Broadband connection was increased from a 1.4 Mbps T-1 to a 50 Mbps down and 5 Mbps up cable connection from Time Warner. Not only was the bandwidth increased significantly; but, significant savings were enjoyed in the broadband rate for internet access. A Cisco router was in place; but, a new Cisco PoE switch, CAT6 Ethernet cable and Mesh Gateway Access Points were to be added to provide the WiFi coverage.

A Predictive Analysis of the coverage and preliminary channels assignments was performed.

Site Survey

AP on a stick . . .Following the system design and identification of the optimum locations for installing the wireless mesh access points, an analysis of existing RF interference, and an assessment of how the access points would be mounted and what additions would be needed to the existing wired distribution system was completed. Several "APs on a stick", shown at the right, were used to verify the coverage provided by the predictive analysis.

System Installation

In conjunction with the predictive analysis, a Pre-Deployment site survey using an "AP on a stick" was performed to ensure that the signal coverage and throughput requirements would be met.

System Testing

After the system was installed, a Post-Deployment site survey was conducted to ensure that the signal coverage and throughput requirements were met.

Lobby

Breakfast Room

A Meraki MR16 access point provides dual band coverage in the Lobby and Breakfast Room,  Band steering was implemented to optimize performance. Band steering detects clients capable of 5 GHz operation and steers them to that frequency, while leaving 2.4 GHz available for legacy clients.

CAT 6 Ethernet Cable Installation
